The ninth annual Steuben County Choir Festival will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Hamilton High, Hamilton, Indiana. This annual event combines four area high school choirs joining male and female voices to foster creativity in song. The four high schools participating are Angola, Fremont, Hamilton, and Prairie Heights, respectively. Each school will perform two songs individually with the final four selections combining the high schools with a total number of 110 voices.
This year guest clinician Brenda Butler will be directing the combined choir after an all-day clinic. Mrs. Butler is the Choral Director at Elkhart Memorial High School where she teachers and directs Jazz Choir, Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, and assists in various contests throughout the year. She is a sought after clinician with her expertise and experience in all styles of music. The clinic will be an intense rehearsal polishing notes, adding artistic expression and opportunity for each student to meet new singers while developing their talents.
Songs to enjoy this year will be a 1980’s hit by the group Toto, “Africa”, a selection of 3 short Spanish songs titled “Tres canciones de los Elementros”, an American folk song titled “The Cuckoo”, and an African American Spiritual “Soon, I will be done”.
Cost of admission will be $3 for adults and $1 for students and are available at the door. Don’t miss this annual concert where creative expression is heard in song.
