On Friday and Saturday, September 28 and 29, over a thousand volunteers from throughout LaGrange County will join forces to package 350,000 nutritious meals for hungry children around the world.
In its third year in the county, the event has been expanded to two days. Seven two-hour work sessions at the LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds allow workers to participate as individuals or as teams from their churches, businesses or civic organizations.
The project has been organized by a team of local farmers working with Pastor Rustin Krapfl of Brighton Chapel Church. Financial support for the effort has come from churches, individuals and companies. The money is used to buy the ingredients for a rice-based Manna Pack that is boiled in water to provide a nutritious meal at an estimated cost of 25 cents.
Soybean fields throughout the county have been set aside to support the project.
The seven Manna Pack work sessions are Friday at 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 1 and 3:30 p.m. Registrations to volunteer may be made by calling Brighton Chapel Church at 562-2505 Brighton Chapel Church.
