The LaGrange County Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, in the community room of the LaGrange County Library. This is a change in meeting room.
Guest speaker will be Ann (Schlemmer) Bricker of Howe, who will talk about on the fast-growing website “findagrave. com.” This free access website is built and maintained by volunteers who roam cemeteries across the United States, photographing headstones and uploading the photos to the website.
Cemetery headstones are considered "solid proof" when building family genealogies. In less than 10 years the website has grown to over 78 million photos, cataloged by name, dates of birth, death, state, and county. Many volunteers have also added obituaries, notes and pictures to other family members buried in the same cemetery.
This website is fast becoming the second favorite site of many genealogists. Bricker will be bringing stories of her experiences in contributing and using the website.
