Westview senior Jeslyn Zimmerly has decided to further her athletic and academic careers at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne.
Zimmerly, a three-sport standout at Westview, signed a national letter-of-intent to compete as a pole vaulter in the Indiana Tech women’s track program earlier this week. Zimmerly, who chose the Fort Wayne school over several others scattered across the country, has made the IHSAA state finals in the pole vault the past three years and is considered one of the top contenders for the title this spring. She also won the 2010 USATF National Youth pole vault championship with a height of 12-4 feet.
“I was looking for the school that offered the best fit for me as a person, student and athlete,” stated Zimmerly in a press release. “Indiana Tech’s size fit my personality. I felt very comfortable with the track coaches and the girls I would be training with.”
Aside from her track exploits, Zimmerly has helped the Westview girls soccer team to two sectional titles and the girls basketball team to a sectional crown.
Jeslyn, the daughter of Randy and Cyndie Zimmerly, plans to major in elementary education at Indiana Tech.
