A long-time Wolcottville resident is the town’s new Clerk-Treasurer following a Republican Caucus held Tuesday evening in the Town Hall.
June Brown was selected to fulfill the remaining term of outgoing Clerk-Treasurer Jeanette Combs on the second ballot. The first ballot resulted in a tie between Brown and Phyllis Arnold. Casting votes were precinct committeemen Duane VanWagner, representing Johnson South in LaGrange County and Joe Haiflich, representing Orange Twp. #14 in Noble County.
Prior to the vote, Arnold and Brown introduced themselves, noting their qualifications and why they were seeking the post.
Arnold recently received her Associates Degree in Office Administration from Ivy Tech in Ft. Wayne. She added that she was looking forward to being a part of the town government. “I want to do things for my community,” she said.
Brown was the LaGrange County Clerk from 200 to 2004, overseeing two primary and general elections during that time. She told the caucus that she enjoys government work and being a part of it. She noted that she had lived in Wolcottville most of her life. “My first job with at the Twin 6,” she said.
Both candidates spoke highly of the other, each commenting that they had found a new friend. “I can see both of you have the respect of the community,” said Randall Kirkpatrick, Chairman for the Noble County Republican Party.
Combs submitted her resignation earlier this summer, effective July 11. The current term being fulfilled by Brown will expire in 2015.
