Willis G. Fields, 74, LaGrange, died Sunday September 2, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor of LaGrange.
He was born August 31, 1938, in Kendallville, Ind., to Willie J. and Ora A. (Rhoades) Fields.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1964-1967 and served as an assistant chaplain in Germany. He attended Goshen College and had worked in a variety of different jobs in Indiana, Arizona and New York. After his retirement, he started transporting the Amish. He received his Certificate of Ordination in Ministry on May 23, 1993. He received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch on April 30, 1999. He was a former member of the Kendallville Assembly of God Church, the LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce, and the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce in New York.
Surviving are one son, Phillip A. Fields, Angola, Ind.; two granddaughters, Nikita and Victoria Fields; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Fields, Kendallville, Ind., and Mary Fields, LaGrange.
Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange with Pastor Russ Hepler officiating.
Burial with military honors by LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will be in Woodruff Cemetery, LaGrange.
