William E. Sweigart, 94, LaGrange, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor of LaGrange.
He was born February 28, 1918, in Portland, Ind., to Earl and Hagar (Thomas) Sweigart.
He was married March 6, 1939 to Rosemary Bubp. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2011.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked in the construction business until his retirement. During his retirement, he was a driver for Lambright’s Hatchery in LaGrange. He was a former licensed pilot and spent winters in Florida.
Surviving are one daughter, Lindy Goetz, Howe; a half-brother, Richard Hakes, Sanford, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Janet Steffen, Bluffton, Ind.; two nieces, Twila and Mel Bice, Bluffton, Ind., and Cathy and Randy Smith, Portland, Ind.; and one nephew, Tom and Marveta Brindle, Ft. Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Amanda Sweigart, two half-sisters, Nora May Brindle and Dorothy Austin, and one nephew, David Thornburg.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Friday, August 10, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Memorial services for William and his wife Rosemary will be 4 p.m. Friday, August 10, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange with Reverend Carldean Merrifield officiating and military rites by LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
