Whitko and Prairie Heights split a varsity baseball twin-bill Saturday at Goshen College.
The Wildcats tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the opener, 7-3. Quinten Bland had two of the four Panther hits in the game and an RBI. Matt Handshoe cracked an RBI single and Jacob Heller whacked a triple.
Bo Murphy absorbed the pitching loss. Murphy allowed six hits, walked three and whiffed two in 5.1 innings.
Prairie Heights bounced back to claim the closing game, 9-7. The Panthers built a 9-2 cushion in the sixth inning, then withstood a Whitko rally to win by two.
Kyle Burkholder had three hits and an RBI for Heights. Ryan Day poked two hits and plated two. Corey Johnson and Travis Grubb also had two hits, and Bland legged out a double.
Day, Heller and Quinton Holloway all took turns on the mound for the Panthers with Holloway earning the victory.
Prairie Heights will take a 14-12 record into its LaVille sectional opener Wednesday night against Central Noble.
