Westview held off NECC and county rival Prairie Heights, 9-7 in varsity softball action last Thursday night.
Leading 2-1 after two frames, the Lady Warriors upped their advantage to 5-1 with a three-run third inning. Sam Pfenning’s single accounted for two of the markers.
After Prairie Heights cut the margin to 5-2 with a run in its half of the third, Westview exploded for four tallies in the top of the fourth to break the game wide open. A two-out, two-run single by Karis Brewer was the big hit of the rally.
The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to shave the difference to two. But Pfenning settled down to secure the final out and the Lady Warriors’ fifth conference win in six tries.
Amber Roth went 4-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to pace Westview at the plate. Sidney Byrkett had two singles.
Maddie Blum drove in three runs with a double and two singles for Prairie Heights, which dropped to 1-4 in the NECC with the loss. Shawna Carbone ripped a double and two singles, Alex Messer collected two hits and an RBI, and Tailor Vanwagner lined an RBI single.
Carbone suffered the pitching setback. She walked five and struckout eight.
