The Westview “Red Eyed Vieros” team took second place at a recent envirothon contest held in Columbia City, Ind.
The contest this year was held at the Columbia City Public Library restored wetland site and included teams from Lakeland, Westview, Northrop, and Tipton high schools.
The Northrop “Tree Thugs” took first place and the Northrop “Minions” came in third.
The Soil and Water Conservation Districts of DeKalb, Elkhart, LaGrange, Steuben and Whitley counties help sponsor the local envirothon contest each year. The envirothon tests teams of high school students on their knowledge and understanding of wildlife, soil, aquatics, forestry and current natural resource issues.
The top three scoring teams advance on to a state contest, which will be held on April 25 at Purdue University. Winning teams at state advance on to an international contest.
