Westview names top spellers


Westview Elementary’s Spel-ling Bee competition began in November as fifth and sixth graders participated in a preliminary round written test. Thirty-four students qualified to advance to the spelling bee.

The spelling bee took place on Jan. 14 in the Wilson Auditorium at Westview Jr-Sr High School. 

Lindsay Stoltzfus, daughter of Rich and Heidi Stoltzfus of Shipshewana, was declared champion. She is a fifth grader in Suzie Sheets’ class. Her winning words were “consistency” and “efficient.” She will advance to the LaGrange County Spelling Bee, which will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Wilson Auditorium.

Kendra Hochstetler, daughter of Myron and Tressie Hochstetler of Shipshewana, was runner-up. She is a sixth grader in Travis Davis’ class. She bowed out of competition on the word “deodorant.”

Miller, Jalen Bontrager, Taylor Davis, Corrina Hochstetler, Sherri Yoder, John Kelly, Nadine Schrock, Michael E. Miller, Luke Miller, Payton May and Michael A. Miller. Sixth graders – Kendra Hochstetler, Tori Antal, Shelbi Smith, Wanda Yoder, Hannah Miller, Darin Yutzy, Madi Kazmucha, Lacey Krahn, Markus Miller, Rebecca Schlabach, Esther Wingard, Kent Yoder, Bailey Hostetler, Elaine Miller, Colleen Yutzy, Austin Lamb, Ashley Fry, Anthony M. Miller, and Carter Giggy.
