Westview holds Geography Bee

Westview Jr-Sr. High School recently held its annual school National Geographic Bee. Dan Gill, an 8th grader and the son of Randy and Janice Reed of Shipshewana, was declared the champion, winning over a field of approximately 400 students. Seventh grader Maggie McCoy, daughter of Mike and Nicole McCoy of Wolcottville, was named runner-up.

Gill will take a written examination to determine if he will advance to the next level of competition. The top 100 students statewide will compete at a state level bee in Indianapolis that will be held in March. The ultimate prize is the national championship in Washington, D.C., with the winner receiving a $25,000 college scholarship.

This is the 25th year the National Geographic Society is holding the National Geographic Bee for students in grades 4-8 in thousands of schools across the nation as well as in Department of Defense Dependent Schools worldwide.
