Westview successfully defended its NECC girls soccer tournament championship for a fifth straight year Saturday afternoon in Emma with a 6-0 pasting of Angola.
Riley Hochstetler put the Lady Warriors up 1-0 midway through the first half when she booted in a shot off a wild scramble in front of the Angola net. A few minutes later, Amiah May converted a pass from Sidney Byrkett into Westview’s second goal.
Any hopes of a Lady Hornet comeback were dashed during a six-minute span in the second half when Steph Mowery’s right foot got red hot. The Lady Warrior forward found the net on shots in the 51st, 54th and 57th minutes to extend the Westview advantage to 5-0. Hochstetler earned an assist on the first of Mowery’s markers, while Taryn Pruitt set up the third.
Tori Oesch finished off the scoring with 16:19 to play off a feed from Hochstetler.
Westview keeper Grace St. Clair was credited with one save in the title match. Angola netminders Sara Joergensen and Kate Capkovitz combined to make 11 stops.
Angola reached the finals by virtue of a 2-1 triumph over Lakeland in the semifinal round last Thursday.
Joergensen put in both of the Lady Hornet tallies. Katie Levitz scored the Lady Laker goal.
