Westview boys upend Prairie Heights

Brant Yoder sparked the Westview varsity boys basketball team to a 58-44 NECC triumph at Prairie Heights last Thursday night.

The 5-8 senior guard fired in 22 points, made eight steals and delivered five assists for the Warriors, who improved to 8-1 in league play, a half-game in front of Fremont (7-1). The win also upped Westview’s overall record to 16-2.

Yoder fueled a 17-10 surge in the second period with nine markers. He then hit a field goal and two free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors keep the Panthers at bay.

Adrian Brandenberger, who also contributed six points to the Westview ledger in the final frame, followed Yoder on the Warrior scoring column with nine tallies and led the winners on the boards with five rebounds. Sophomore Judah Zickafoose, whose slam-dunk in the second quarter brought the Warrior crowd to its feet, wound up with eight points.

Freshman Jacob Heller spearheaded the Prairie Heights effort with 16 points and six rebounds.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-5 in NECC play and 4-15 overall.
