Westview boys stay perfect in NECC

Westview stayed perfect in the NECC boys basketball standings with a 47-34 victory at Eastside last Friday night.

The win, coupled with West Noble’s loss to Fairfield, left the Warriors alone atop the league standings at 5-0. Prairie Heights sits a half-game back at 5-1, while both the Chargers and Falcons reside in third position with 4-1 marks.

Trailing the Blazers, 21-20 at halftime, Westview put the defensive clamps on the hosts following the intermission, limiting them to just three field goals and a total of 13 points over the final two stanzas. Conversely, the Warriors put 27 points on the scoreboard in the second half to pull away for a comfortable triumph.

Jordyn Bontrager topped the Westview scoring chart with 15 points. Jamar Weaver was next with 13, while Chandler Aspy sank nine.

The Warriors finished with a 27-18 edge on the boards. Spearheading that effort was Aspy with eight caroms and Bontrager with six. Bontrager also dealt five assists.

P.J. Dean was high-point man for Eastside with 10. Ryan Liechty had nine markers for the Blazers.

Coach Rob Yoder’s Warriors stepped out of conference play Saturday night when they hosted East Noble. Sparked by the three-point shooting of Weaver (four triples) and the nine-point effort of Judah Zickafoose, Westview built a 27-10 halftime bulge. From there, the Warriors cruised to a 55-38 victory over the Knights.

Weaver wound up with 15 points to head up the Westview scoresheet. Zickafoose finished with 13 tallies and Aspy totaled 12.

Bontrager garnered seven assists for the Warriors, now 9-3 overall.

Brandon Nichol swished 12 points and snagged four rebounds to lead East Noble.
