Westview boys roll

The Westview varsity boys basketball team gained a huge measure of revenge last Friday night when it roughed up West Noble, 66-55 in Emma.

Coach Rob Yoder’s squad, who lost to the Chargers in the finals of the NECC tournament by a count of 61-40, jumped on the visitors early in the rematch behind the shooting of Jordyn Bontrager. The senior guard canned two threes and a pair of deuces in the opening quarter, sparking the Warriors to a 15-10 lead.

Seven points by Chandler Aspy and six by Judah Zickafoose in the second period triggered a 17-11 spurt by Westview, allowing the hosts to build a 32-21 cushion. Bontrager drained two more triples in the third as the Warriors zoomed to a 46-27 lead.

Bontrager finished with 24 points and Aspy followed with 16 to top the Warrior scoresheet. Zickafoose ended up with a dozen tallies.

Drew Schermerhorn led West Noble with 21 points.

Westview hosted Hamilton in another NECC affair Saturday night. Bontrager again paced the Warriors with 18 points in a 67-37 thrashing of the Marines.

Eight other Westview players got into the scorebook. Aspy finished with 14 points, Zickafoose netted 11 and Jamar Weaver had nine.

Casey Rote fired in 16 points to spearhead the Hamilton offense. Colton Rose added 12.

The weekend sweep left Westview with a 7-0 NECC record, one game up on 6-1 Prairie Heights. Overall, the Warriors stand 11-3.
