Westview boys blank Lakland

Westview erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-0 victory over arch-rival Lakeland in NECC softball action last Thursday night in Emma.

The Lady Warriors broke out on top, 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Megan Schrock’s sacrifice fly brought in Karis Brewer from third base. Brewer had tripled in front of Schrock.

Westview’s fifth began innocently enough, as a single by Hayley Courtney was quickly followed by a force out at second base. Zoe Williams then singled and scored on a hit by Shelbi Smith.

After a double by Grace Miller sent Smith home, a bases-loaded walk coaxed by Schrock and consecutive two-run singles by Annie Sharick and Courtney accounted for the final five tallies of the big frame.

The Lady Warriors ended the game on the ten-run rule in the bottom of the sixth when a single by Tori Antal plated Shianna Smith.

Winning pitcher Andrea Stoltzfus gave up just two hits – singles by Christa Parham and Elise Edwards. Stoltzfus struckout nine and walked five.
