Westview bests Hamilton in baseball action

A three-run fifth inning and the fine pitching efforts of Adrian Brandenberger and Judah Zickafoose were enough to push Westview past Hamilton, 4-1 in NECC baseball action Tuesday evening in Emma.

Pinch-hitter Jordan Stoltzfus began the Warrior rally in the fifth by being hit by a pitch thrown by Ed Schiffli. He advanced to second on a sacrifice by Damon Miller, then came around to score on Brant Yoder’s RBI single, giving Westview a 2-1 lead.

Yoder proceeded to steal second base and score on a misplayed fly ball to right field off the bat of Zickafoose. Jamar Weaver then brought in Zickafoose from third with a sacrifice fly to right.

Brandenberger, who allowed four hits, struckout five and walked four in six innings of work, gave way to Zickafoose in the seventh. The sohpomore retired each of the three Marines he faced, including two by strikeout, to nail down a save.

Yoder knocked in the first Westview run in the third inning with a double that scored Kohle Christner. Hamilton netted its lone run in the second inning when Ed Newcomer’s sacrifice fly to center field plated Schiffli, who had singled to start the frame.

The victory improved Westview to 4-1 in the NECC and to 8-6 overall.
