Tarrin Beachy’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Jake Berkey with the winning run for Westview in a 5-4 NECC baseball triumph over county rival Prairie Heights last Thursday.
The Warriors took a 4-3 lead into the top of the seventh inning, only to have the Panthers push across the tying run with a walk and two errors. Berkey led off the Westview seventh with a single, took second on a walk to Judah Zickafoose and advanced to third on a single by Kohle Christner.
Beachy then lined the first pitch he saw from Heights reliever Corey Johnson into center field, scoring Berkey.
Prairie Heights netted two runs in the third on singles by Jacob Heller and Dylan Stayner to take a 3-2 lead. A double by Damon Miller and bunt hits by Jamar Weaver and Berkey set up a two-run Westview fifth which put the hosts back on top.
Jeremy Hochstetler, who relieved Beachy on the mound in the sixth, got credit for the pitching win. Bo Murphy started on the hill for Prairie Heights and went 4.2 frames.
