Jeremy Hochstetler scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning to give Westview a 5-4 victory over host Hamilton in NECC baseball Tuesday.
Hochstetler singled to lead off the 10th, took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chase Anderson. Marine hurler Derek Molnar whiffed Hunter Christner for the second out, but uncorked a delivery to the backstop while pitching to Damon Miller, bringing in Hochstetler with the go-ahead tally.
Hamilton filled the bases with two outs on a fielder’s choice, a hit by Carston Dick and a walk to Brevin Bennett. But Judah Zickafoose, who relieved Warrior starter Damon Miller in the eighth, retired Daine Johnson on strikes to end the threat and the game.
Westview took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh on the strength of a two-run homer by Zickafoose in the fourth and RBI singles by Jake Berkey and Jamar Weaver in the fifth and sixth frames, respectively. The Marines rallied to tie the score at 4-all with a three-run seventh. Singles by Aaron Kelley and Brett Conversett, along with a Warrior error plated the three markers.
Zickafoose struckout five in his three-inning sting to nab the win. Kelley and Molnar each tossed five innings for Hamilton, combining to strikeout 14 and walk eight.
The victory improved Westview to 4-0 in the NECC and to 11-2 overall.
