After cruising through its first five NECC baseball opponents, the Westview Warriors were stunned by Fremont and Angola on consecutive nights earlier this week.
A three-run third inning and the clutch pitching of Brock Baker sparked Fremont to a 4-3 triumph at Westview Monday evening. Ryan Sichling’s RBI double and a two-run single off the bat of Kyler Grange were the big hits in the Eagle third.
Baker, who surrendered a two-run homer to Kohle Christner in the second inning, gave up just one more run the rest of the way to earn the pitching triumph. Baker fanned two.
Jamar Weaver, who took the pitching loss for the Warriors, singled home Jamin Lambright with Westview’s final tally in the bottom of the sixth. The Warriors left the bases loaded twice in the game and stranded two runners in the sixth.
Tuesday night in Angola, Hornet hurler Markus Arnold spun a four-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks to lift his club past Westview, 4-0.
The Warriors’ best chance to score off of Arnold came in the first inning when Judah Zickafoose doubled with one out. But Zickafoose was tagged at the plate for the final out of the frame and Westview wouldn’t get another runner past second base the rest of the way.
Jake Roddy’s solo home run in the second was all the offense Angola needed. Roddy would single home a second Hornet in the fourth. Nick Chao plated a third run with a sixth-inning safety.
Houston Haney took the pitching loss for Westview. Haney gave up nine hits, did not walk a batter and fanned four.
Angola improved to 7-0 in the NECC with the win.
