Westview approves new IT services

The Westview School Board approved the recommendation to use a new IT maintenance firm for the school district.

The board approved Next IT for $6,900 per month. Two other vendors submitted quotes: Crystal Valley Computers at $7,348 per month and ENS at $8,500 per month.

The approval was pending final contract review by the district’s legal counsel and site visits. The firm has an office in Sturgis, Mich.

In other business:

Westview will have a uniformed officer ride bus routes from time to time due to some disciplinary issues. It was noted that this is being provided at no cost to the district.

Superintendent Randy Zimmerly told the board that resource officers are becoming more common. “They are of more value to law enforcement than to the school,” he noted, adding that having a resource officer in the school allows the officer to become more of a part of the community. Zimmerly told the board that the district may look at one in the future.
