West Noble ran its varsity boys basketball record to 9-0 last Friday night in Ligonier with a 60-40 thumping of Lakeland.
Leading only by two (9-7) after one period, the Chargers doubled up the Lakers (20-10) in the second to seize a 29-17 halftime advantage. Phil Miller’s two-handed dunk highlighted the West Noble surge.
Lakeland scrapped back to within seven in the third quarter. But a pair of three-point buckets by Brandon Evans squelched any Laker comeback plans.
Both Miller and Evans finished with 14 points to pace the balanced West Noble scoring attack. Miller also snared a team-high seven rebounds and Evans added five assists to his line.
Drew Schermerhorn and Nick Noe joined Miller and Evans in double figures with 13 and 10 markers, respectively. Nick Thomas contributed five assists and three steals.
Topping the Lakers with 13 points was Spencer Mortola. Mitch Herber chipped in eight.
West Noble now stands 5-0 in league play to Lakeland’s mark of 0-5. Overall, the Lakers carry a 1-8 record.
