West Noble boys suprise Westview

Westview saw its 14-game winning streak and its stranglehold on the NECC boys basketball season title wiped away last Friday night when visiting West Noble took home a 45-44 overtime triumph over the Warriors.

The Chargers built a 28-19 lead through three quarters on the three-point shooting of Drew Schermerhorn and the inside scoring of Nick Noe and Jordan Younce. But the Warriors would have an answer in Brant Yoder, whose 15 points in the fourth period sparked a 23-14 rally by the hosts that tied the game at 43-all.

In the extra session, Kyle Miller hit a basket for Westview and Schermerhorn swished two free throws to bring the count to 45-45. West Noble’s Nick Thomas was fouled with less than a second to play, and the Charger hit the second of two charity tosses to give the visitors the upset.

Schermerhorn tallied 10 points and both Noe and Keith Gibson netted nine for West Noble, which improved to 3-5 in the NECC and to 9-9 overall with the win.

Yoder’s brilliant fourth quarter capped off a 20-point, four-rebound, three-steal effort for the 5-8 senior. Miller added eight markers and four boards to the Warrior ledger. Adrian Brandenberger also delivered eight points.

Westview now stands 7-1 in league play, a half-game ahead of 6-1 Fremont. Overall, the Warriors are 15-2.
