Wawasee scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to nip Westview, 9-7 in varsity softball action Saturday afternoon in Syracuse.
A double by Sam Malik and singles by Kylie Norris, Gabi Routson and Amber Yoder fueled Wawasee’s big sixth inning.
Trailing 9-6 going into its last at bat, Westview got one of the runs back when Rachel Johns singled home pinch-runner Sidney Byrkett. Hannah Witham, who Byrkett was running for, and Brooke Yoder began the frame with singles.
But that would be as close as Westview would get. Routson came on to relieve Norris in the pitcher’s circle and retired the next three Westview batters in order to nail down the Wawasee win.
Witham, Yoder and Michelle Mowery all had two hits for Westview. Johns collected three RBI, while Mowery and Kaylene Kaufman had one apiece.
Kaufman did the pitching for Westview.
