Wawasee boys down Lakeland

A valiant Lakeland rally came up a few points short against Wawasee Saturday night, as the visiting Warriors held off the Lakers, 63-55 in varsity boys basketball.

Trailing 29-15 after one period and by as many as 20 points in the second half, Lakeland rallied to within five in the fourth quarter. But Wawasee made enough free throws down the stretch to hang on for its first victory in nine outings.

Brant Betts poured in a career-high 22 points to pace the Lakers, who fell to 4-11 with the loss. Spencer Mortola swished 15 points and Mitch Herber put in 10.
