A four-run fourth inning was all the Westview varsity softball team needed to best Central Noble, 4-1 last Thursday night in Albion.
A lead-off single by Rachel Johns triggered the Lady Warrior burst. After a sacrifice bunt by Kayla Yoder moved Johns into scoring position, Brooke Yoder lashed a single to left, bringing home Johns with the first run of the game.
Kaylene Kauffman, Olivia Miller and Hannah Witham followed Yoder with consecutive singles to knock in the other three runs in the frame.
Haley Duncan singled and scored in the bottom of the fourth to get Central Noble on the board. But Kauffman would retire nine of the final 11 Lady Cougars she faced to nail down the win.
Johns and Kauffman each finished with two hits. In the pitcher’s circle, Kauffman gave up five hits, walked one and whiffed five.
