Warrior Boys whip Angola

Westview stayed perfect in the NECC boys basketball standings with a 40-28 road win over Angola last Friday night.

Despite sputtering early, the Warriors managed to build up a nine-point cushion (21-12) by the halftime break. Adrian Brandenberger, who ended up topping the Westview scorecard with 11 points, and Nic Raber each tallied six markers prior to the intermission.

The host Hornets, who came into the contest looking for their initial win of the campaign, cut the Westview lead to four (21-17) early in the third period on a three-pointer by Simon Brown and a deuce by Chad Hammel. However, the Warriors responded by scoring the final 16 points of the frame to open up a 20-point bulge (37-17). Keying the decisive run were a pair of triples by Jordyn Bontrager.

Following Brandenberger in the Warrior scoring ledger was Brant Yoder with eight markers. He also led the winners in steals with three and in assists with two. Nate Raber grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Paul Reiniche was high-point man for Angola with seven.
