Warrior boys roll

Westview moved one step closer to gaining no worse than a share of the NECC boys basketball regular-season championship Saturday afternoon in Benton when it shaded Fairfield, 43-37.

The victory improved the Warriors to 8-1 in league play, tying them with Prairie Heights for first place. Westview travels to Fremont Tuesday for its final conference affair, while the Panthers visit Hamilton Friday for its NECC closer.

Jordyn Bontrager and Chandler Aspy led the Westview attack with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Aspy, who went 5-7 from the floor, hit two key shots in the fourth quarter to protect a precarious Warrior lead.

Joe Line’s eight points paced Fairfield, which led by as many as nine in the first half. Marcus Rodes tacked on seven for the Falcons, now 6-3 in NECC play.

The triumph over Fairfield came less than 24 hours after coach Rob Yoder’s Warriors put a 54-41 thumping on host Goshen.

Judah Zickafoose tallied 13 of his team-best 15 markers for Westview in the first half, helping stake the Warriors to a 29-24 advantage. Bontrager fired in 11 of his 12 tallies following the intermission to allow Westview to pull away from the Redskins.

Jamar Weaver and Aspy also finished in double figures for the Warriors with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The same duo led the winners on the boards with seven rebounds apiece.

Austin Woolett scored 14 points and Brady Bechtel 12 for Goshen.

The two wins improved Westview to 15-4 overall.
