Vivian D. Smith, 81, Shipshewana, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at her residence.
She was born March 27, 1932, in Farmington, Minn., to Earl and Hazel (Juenke) Luedke.
Moving from Minnesota to Howe in 1965, she resided in Shipshewana for the past 12 years. She was a secretary at Brighton School in LaGrange County and the Myrtle House in Sturgis, Mich. She was a longtime active member of Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church in Howe, serving as the church treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was married June 3, 1953, in Minnesota, to James W. Smith. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1982.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathryn (Dennis) Wiard, Howe, Michelle (Lynn) Hart, Butler, Ind., and Jodi (Chris) Leeth, Constantine, Mich.; one son, James Smith, Shipshewana; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Starks, Scott Cline, Lori Mason, Sarah Vasques, James Smith III, and Ryan Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leonard (Judy) Luedke, Plymouth, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Staff Sergeant Kristopher Rodgers.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 22, at Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel in Sturgis, Mich.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, at Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church in Howe with Reverend Jean S. Ness officiating.
Burial will be in Pretty Prairie Cemetery.
