Verna F. Cross, 87, Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at her son’s residence.
She was born June 1, 1926, in Wakarusa, Ind., to Arthur and Martha (Holderman) Weldy.
She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church in New Paris, Ind., where she was active in the sewing circle.
She was married November 28, 1946, in Goshen, to George J. Cross. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2011.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol (Lester) Shetler, Shipshewana; four sons, Charles (Agnes) Cross and David (Martha) Cross, both of Goshen, Lavern (Rosalyn) Cross, Middlebury, and Dean (Coleen) Cross, Milford, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Max K. (Rhoda) Weldy, Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Sharon Bontrager, one great-great-granddaughter, two sisters, Lois Marks and Vivian Shrock, and one brother, Mearl Weldy.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday January 29, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury and 9-10 a.m. Thursday January 30, at Griner Mennonite Church in Middlebury.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday January 30, at Griner Mennonite Church in Middlebury with Pastor Terrill Yoder, Pastor Jerry Helmuth and Pastor DeWayne Martin officiating.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.
