The unemployment rate for LaGrange County rose again based on the December 2012 numbers, reaching 8.0 percent. The November revised rate was 7.6 percent, while the October rate was 6.8 percent.
The increase for December represents only 48 additional residents listed as unemployed by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. However, the county saw a decrease in its labor force of 243 people and a decrease of 291 from the employed listing.
In December 2011, the county’s unemployment stood at 9.3 percent, with almost 200 more unemployed at that time, and a labor force of 90 less than the current level.
Statewide, unemployment was also up slightly, rising to 8.2 percent from the 8.0 percent November rate.
Even with the higher rate, LaGrange County is ranked 59th in the state in unemployment. Regionally, Noble County leads with 9.5 percent unemployment. Elkhart County had 9.3 percent for December’s unemployment rate. Steuben County posted a 9.1 percent unemployment rate.
