LaGrange County’s unemployment rate is almost a quarter of its highest rate from a couple of years ago when it approached 20 percent briefly, as it continues to trend downward.
The unemployment rate for the county in March fell to 5.0 percent, down from 5.4 percent reported in February.
The unemployment rate 86th of the state’s 92 counties.
Surrounding counties continue to be higher, with Steuben County at 6.3, Noble at 5.9 and Elkhart County at 5.8 percent.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent. A year ago, the state rate was 7.9 percent.
