The LaGrange County unemployment rate rose by seven-tenths of a percent in June, up to 7.6 percent. The June 2012 unemployment rate was 7.8 percent.
May’s rate had been down to 6.9 percent.
Overall, the number of unemployed rose by 150, while those listed as employed in the figures released last Friday show an additional 364 being employed in LaGrange County over May. There were 514 people added to the labor force in the county in June.
The higher unemployment still leaves LaGrange County well toward the bottom of the state rankings, coming in at 72nd of the 92 counties.
Regionally, LaGrange County remains below surrounding counties. Noble County tops the area at 8.8 percent, with Steuben right behind at 8.7 percent, and Elkhart County a tenth below that at 8.6 percent.
Statewide, Indiana’s unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percent to 8.4 percent. Indiana led the nation in manufacturing jobs added in June, with 4,300 jobs added. The next highest state to add manufacturing jobs, California, had 2,600.
