LaGrange County saw its unemployment rate drop below 5 percent for July, down to 4.8 percent. The June rate had been 5.1 percent.
A year ago, the county’s unemployment rate stood at 6.4 percent.
In the county, 832 people were listed as unemployed, down 52 from June. The number of those listed as employed dropped by 165. The overall drop in the county’s labor force was 217 between June and July.
LaGrange County is ranked 79th in the state in unemployment.
Neighboring counties remain higher, but not as high as in the past, with Steuben County at 5.5 percent, Noble at 5.4 percent, and Elkhart at 5.2 percent.
Statewide, unemployment remained unchanged at 5.9 percent.
