Unemployment numbers continue to drop as the September rate was reported at 7.0 percent, down from 7.4 percent in August.
The 2012 rate represents a 3 percent drop from the September 2011 rate of 10 percent.
The September 2012 rate also shows an increase in the labor force numbers over last year, rising to 15,609. In September 2011, the county’s labor force was at 15,563.
The number of employed in the county has also risen over the last year by over 500 to 14,511. In 2011, it was 14,005. Those on the unemployed list dropped by 450 over last year to 1,098 last month.
LaGrangeCounty continues to be in the bottom half of all Indiana counties in unemployment at 56th out of 92 counties. Regionally, Elkhart County continues to have the highest rate at 8.4 percent. Noble County is at 8.0 percent. DeKalb County is at 7.9 percent and Steuben County reported 7.6 percent.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3 to 8.2 from August to September.
