Twenty-fifth MayFest to ‘Paint the Town’

Are you ready for some MayFest fun? Shipshewana has been at this for 25 years and this will be the best celebration ever! In honor of the Walldogs’ visit in June, the festival theme this year is “Paint the Town.”

Friday, May 2, begins with entertainment and food at a huge tent on Morton Street. The free entertainment will begin with a magic show and conclude with music by The Wit Brothers, Orie Conley’s Guitar, Banjo Band and the Willie Miller Family. Friday afternoon, members of the WallDog Committee will be available at the main tent to visit with anyone that has questions or would like to become a part of this event. All the while local food vendors will fill the air with appetizing aromas.

Friday evening also features a Local Skit Comedy Contest at Shipshewana-Scott Elementary School. Tickets for the comedy contest are available at E&S Sales.

Saturday morning begins with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a volleyball tournament at the Trading Place Pavilion. Attendees can enjoy a pancake breakfast in the main tent.

The Grand Parade steps off at 10 a.m. Last year, 85 units competed for trophies and were featured in the parade.

After the parade there will be face painting, buggy races and radio control NASCAR races on the corner of Main and Morton streets.

The main tent will have puppets, a magic show, cloggers and so much more. The Trading Place Pavilion will have a corn hole tournament and kid’s games, along with the completion of the basketball and volleyball tourneys. Also on Saturday will be an Animal Magic Show at the elementary school. Tickets will be available at the door. Watch for a juggler roaming the streets! Saturday’s entertainment will be rounded out with music by Double Strung, the Matt Schwartz Band, Rusty Nail Crossing, and the Aaron Stutzman Band.
