Traffic stop nets meth arrest

On Monday, December 23, a deputy with the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department stopped a Dodge Ram pickup truck on US 20 at CR 400 E for having no working taillights.

During the stop, deputies discovered that the vehicle was operating with false or fictitious registration and deputies impounded the vehicle based on those violations.

During the inventory of the vehicle, officers reported finding a small amount of methamphetamine in a glass vile and nearly 50 pills, later identified as morphine.

The driver, Philippe A. Fleming, 36, Berne, Ind., reportedly told officers that the items were his.

Fleming was taken to the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, all Class D Felonies.

Fleming was also given several infractions for the traffic violations.
