Topeka Pharmacy Thanks Jennifer Brown for 20 Years of Service

Topeka Pharmacy extends a heartfelt thank you to Jennifer Brown for twenty years of service.  Jennifer began working at Topeka Pharmacy in March of 1995 and has been part of the team ever since.

Jennifer, the daughter of Kenny and the late Diana Christner, was born and raised in Topeka.  She attended Topeka Elementary and graduated from Westview Jr/Sr High in 1991.  She played softball and was a cheerleader in her high school years.  Jennifer then attended Glen Oaks Community College and earned a degree in business.  It was not long after college that Jen made her way to Topeka Pharmacy, first working at the front counter.  After a few years, she started training to be a pharmacy technician and earned her license in 2003.  Jennifer has been a familiar face at the pharmacy counter ever since.

In her twenty years at the pharmacy, Jennifer has experienced many industry changes.  The pharmacy staff use to fill 100 prescriptions per day and does more than double that currently.  Jen and the pharmacists/owners, Tom and Morag, use to run the pharmacy by themselves.  Now there are sometimes two pharmacists and four techs on staff, which is necessary to keep up with the ever demanding insurance companies and the often unpredictable drug price changes.  She has watched as the pharmacy transitioned from selling collectibles and cigarettes to promoting wellness and selling home health care items.  She has also kept up with the ever changing and fast paced technology required by pharmacy today.  When Jennifer started, she filled prescriptions using a dot matrix printer and a pharmacy product lookup machine called “The Fiche” (pronounced fish).  Now she and the rest of the pharmacy staff use laser printers and the internet to serve their customers.

Jennifer’s responsibilities at Topeka Pharmacy include a wide variety of projects that have developed over time.  She has operated the Topeka Chamber Shopping Bucks program for the last eleven years.  In the summer of 2014, Jennifer launched Simplify My Meds (SMM), which focuses on medication synchronization.  Along with this program, she handles generic drug buying, pharmaceutical returns, wholesale issues, home health care, Medicaid reimbursement and billing, audits, some compounding, and pharmacy supply management.  Jennifer has also represented Topeka Pharmacy several years at their wholesale trade show.

Jennifer and her husband Mike, a maintenance and service representative at Archbold Equipment, live in Topeka and can often be found spending time with family.  Their two children living away from home include Seth (Danielle) Brown, 22, a soldier in the army at Ft Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and Corey Hoopingarner, 21, a first responder and member of the Topeka Volunteer Fire Department.  They have three children still at home.  Jeran Hoopingarner, 17, is a junior at Westview who stays busy managing the varsity basketball team and playing varsity baseball.  Brehtt Brown, 16, is a sophomore at Churubusco, and she is also a varsity basketball manager.  Their youngest son, Jaxon Christner, is four years old and full of life!  Jennifer also has a brother, Scott (Tonya) Christner, who resides in Howe with his family.

Topeka Pharmacy cannot thank Jennifer enough for her twenty years of service!  We look forward to many more years together.
