Topeka moving ahead with fire station plans

In order to be able to use TIF monies to help fund the proposed new Topeka Fire Station and water tower on the east end of the former Starcraft site, the town has to move ahead with the design and bidding, with a June 30 deadline.

Changes in state law mean that money from TIF (Tax Increment Financing) districts will no longer be available for projects funded after the deadline.

The Topeka Redevelopment Commission (RDC) was told that the schedule is to work on preliminary designs to present by March, with bid advertising in April or May. Bids would be opened by the end of May with financing finalized by the June 30 deadline.
