Topeka looking at ball diamond rentals

The Topeka Town Council is considering having a rental agreement in place for traveling/visiting teams to use the baseball diamonds outside of the town’s Little League.

The board discussed the agreement at their Monday meeting, looking at how much should be charged to cover the town’s costs to prepare the field, as well as how much extra should be included for use of the diamond’s lights.

The council was asked by Town Attorney Bill Eberhard where the rental fees should go.

Eberhard also had the council consider adding the adult softball fields in the agreement. The council discussed how the adult fields are currently handled and if the fees charged for tournaments covers the town’s costs.

Eberhard is expected to bring an ordinance to the council to cover both the Little League and adult diamonds.

The council was updated on the building at the corner of Main and Lake streets. Eberhard is meeting with the county planning department attorney and said he expects to have a proposal at the next meeting.

The town approved the 2013 advertised budget.
