Both Topeka and Wolcottville have announced that the fireworks displays for their July 4th celebrations have been cancelled due to extremely dry conditions.
Topeka Fire Chief Stewart Bender stated that with the drought conditions, the town felt it could not take a chance, even with the preparations the town had started. “Regrettably, some tough decisions had to be made,” Bender said.
All other activities in both Wolcottville and Topeka will continue as scheduled. However, with Wednesday’s highs predicted to be in the mid-90s, everyone is cautioned to stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat-related health issues.
