Topeka has several events in store for Independence Day, beginning at 8 a.m. with a Road Race and Fun Walk, as well as a Basketball Tournament and Three-Point Shootout. Register for the race or come play basketball at the East Park Pavilion.
A miniature pony pull begins at 9 a.m., followed by a full-size pony pull at 10 a.m. in the sale barn arena. Also at 10 a.m., the East Park Playground will have kids’ games set up. a garden tractor pull hosted by the Elkhart County Garden Tractor Association is set for 10 a.m. on S. Babcock St.
At 11 a.m., catch the Big Wheel races near East Park Playground. The Lions Club will also have a pork burger and barbeque chicken cookout at 11 a.m.
Again in East Park Playground, there will be a children’s puppet show, presented at both noon and 2:30 by Mousetrap Theatre. In between the puppet shows, the sale barn arena will hold a horse pull at 1 p.m.
Don’t miss the new pie eating contest near the East Park Basketball Court. Contestant registration begins at 2:30 p.m.
A parade is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the theme “Let Freedom Ring.” Then at 6:15 p.m., a buggy race will run down Main St.
After the buggy race, the LaGrange County Community Band will perform at the East Park Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.
To top the night off, there will be a free concert in East Park by Spike and the Bulldogs followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.
