Commissioners ordered a title search for a piece of property located north of US 20 bounded by Walnut Street on the west side and the old railroad right-of-way on the east side.
The title search is preliminary to commissioners deciding whether or not they wish to take over the property through a tax sale procedure.
It was noted at the meeting that taxes have not been paid on the property for at least 12 years. There is funds available through a six-county Brownfield Grant that will provide both a Phase I and Phase II environmental study and eventual cleanup of the property.
The project was delegated to County Attorney Kurt Bachman, who noted he would be in contact with an attorney who specializes in environmental issues and start the process. “We’ll be back with you on developments,” he said.
