Tip leads to discovery of marijuana plant

Just before midnight on Aug. 19, deputies from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence in the 5900 block of CR 500S after a tip about a possible marijuana grow was received by the department.

According to the police report, a neighbor reported seeing what appeared to be a marijuana plant growing in plain view in the backyard of a residence. When deputies arrived at the scene, the plant was located in plain view in the backyard. Officers made contact with the resident of the property, Michael D. Knowles, 47. After Knowles was read his Miranda rights, he allegedly advised officers that the plant was marijuana and he had planted it at the end of June.

Officers received permission from Knowles to search his home and shed. During the search, officers allegedly found numerous items of drug paraphernalia, which were seized along with the marijuana plant as evidence.

Knowles was arrested for Possession of Marijuana With Prior Conviction, a Class D Felony, and Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.
