Three injured in Friday crash

Three area teens were injured Friday evening when the car they were riding in went off the road on CR 300N near 900E.

According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle was heading east on CR 300N at an unreasonable speed and bottomed out just past CR 900E. The vehicle skidded left of center and then came back into the eastbound lane. The department report stated that the vehicle then went off the right side of the road.

The vehicle rolled at least three times, the police report stated, and hit an embankment, causing it to go airborne. The car struck several saplings and then hit a large tree approximately 15 feet in the air on the driver’s side before coming to rest.

Passenger Kyle Schlegel, 17, of Turkey Lake suffered a large laceration on the left side of his head, broken ribs and punctured lung, according to the report.

Passenger Zachry Zimmer, no age given, of Angola was listed with bruised lungs and complaint of pain.

The driver, Michael Gaetz, 17, of Pleasant Lake was treated for a bruised right lung and pain to his right hip.
