Sydney E. “Sid” Hagerty, 86, Union, Mich., died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Cass County Medical Care Facility.
He was born February 6, 1927, in White Pigeon, Mich., to Harley and Lillian (Lamb) VanAntwerp.
Living all his life in the White Pigeon, Mich., Scott, Ind., and Union, Mich., area all his life, he was a graduate of Scott High School and Tri-State University. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a mechanical engineer at the Bendix Corporation, was a past member of the Porter Township Zoning Board, and a member of the Bendix Salaried Retirees Club.
He was married July 24, 1946, in White Pigeon, Mich., to Pauline R. Custer. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2005.
Surviving are one daughter, Jacquelyn Hagerty, Union, Mich.; one brother, Jack (Mary) VanAntwerp, Howe; one sister, Eva A. (Alan) Snyder, Constantine, Mich.; and his extended family, Pat and Patti Culp, Sturgis, Mich., Julie and Jack Senger and children Jamie, Jarrett, and Jenna, all of Millersburg, and Judy and Bob Binder, Union, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, Mich.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 31, at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, Mich.
Burial will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery, White Pigeon, Mich.
