Sue Garten, 64, Shipshewana, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Mishawaka, Ind.
She was born November 20, 1948, in Charleston, W.V., to James Wilmer and Lucille Christine (Silcox) Cavender.
She was a grade A welder at Syndicate Systems for many years and most recently a homemaker. She was a member of First Freedom Baptist Church in LaGrange, where she played guitar and sang.
She was married November 27, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John Garten. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John (Stacey) Garten II, Middlebury, Richard D. (Renae) Garten, Sturgis, Mich., and Jeffery S. Garten, Shipshewana; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Patty (Jr.) Truex, Elkhart, Marie (Mike) Huddleston, Shipshewana, Evelyn Merritt, Middlebury, and Joe Ann (Robert) Wade, Middlebury; and one brother, James Cavender, Mishawaka, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury with Pastor Wade Sturdivant and Pastor David Watson officiating.
Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.
