U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman will host a Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 19, in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Sign-in/registration is 9:30-10 a.m. with presentations from 10 a.m. until noon. The academy day will be held at the Air National Guard Base, 3005 W. Ferguson Rd. in Ft. Wayne.
Students interested in learning about the process and prerequisites for applying for nominations to the Air Force, Merchant Marine, West Point, Navy, and Coast Guard academies are welcome to attend. Presentations on the process and the different academies will be followed by a question and answer period. Parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are encouraged to attend as well.
Candidates for admission must be U.S. citizens, have secured a nomination from a nominating authority (with the exception of the Coast Guard), be unmarried and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. They cannot have turned age 23 by July 1 of the year they enter the academy. In applying for a nomination from Congressman Stutzman, candidates must be residents of Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District and submit an application packet that includes their completed application form with a recent photo, three letters of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores, an official copy of their high school transcript, and an essay. Attendees may enter the base via the security entrance just east of the airport. Each attendee must RSVP with contact information, driver’s license number, and date of birth by April 17.
