Sturgis girls edge Lakeland

Former Lakeland girls basketball standout Aime Burger guided her Sturgis Lady Trojans to a 41-36 victory over the Lady Lakers Saturday night in Sturgis.

After spotting Lakeland a 5-2 lead, the hosts went on a 23-17 run to take a 25-22 advantage heading into the final period. Sturgis then scored 12 of the first 15 points of the final frame to put away its fifth win of the season.

Rachel Anderson led the Lady Trojans with 17 points. Marissa Parker tossed in six, Morgan Pueschel five, Jessica Cline and Nicolette Nelson four apiece, Madeline Mercer and Goretti Alfaro both two, and Kayla Nichols one.

Spearheading the Lakeland offense with 17 points was Becca Levitz. She also grabbed seven rebounds and made six steals.

Abi Thompson chipped in six points and 11 boards to the Lady Laker ledger, while Ashtin Kaminer totaled four points, three assists and five steals. Carlee Richardson netted three points, Blake Mullet two points and four steals, Nicole McKibben two points and two assists, and Elexus Holmes two points and two rebounds.

Lakeland wraps up the regular season with a 9-11 record. The Lady Lakers meet either West Noble or Whitko in the semifinals of the NorthWood sectional this Friday at 6 p.m
